BD 504 is JPI’s stinging-nettle preparation for the BD 502–507 compost set. Place the finished material in its own hole in a moist compost pile. In a 2026 laboratory comparison, an Italian BD 504 sample gave the strongest Ureibacillus terrenus growth response among the individual preparations tested and was the only one to significantly stimulate Parapedobacter luteus. A separate 27-year field experiment found distinct soil-microbial functional profiles after compost was prepared with the full BD 502–507 set.

Use the finished preparation as part of a complete BD 502–507 set. Make six holes evenly across the compost pile and place this unit into one of the first five holes, about halfway down the pile. Close the hole with old compost or good soil so no air pocket remains. One complete set treats up to 15 tons of compost; use the full set on smaller piles also.
