BD 503 is JPI’s finished German chamomile preparation, used as the chamomile member of the BD 502–507 compost set. Biodynamic growers associate it with nitrogen, calcium, and balanced decomposition. In a 2026 in-vitro study, mature compost treated with the complete set supported greater proliferation of selected compost-associated bacteria after 120 days than untreated compost, especially with mixed manure-and-plant material.

Use the finished preparation as part of a complete BD 502–507 set. Make six holes evenly across the compost pile and place this unit into one of the first five holes, about halfway down the pile. Close the hole with old compost or good soil so no air pocket remains. One complete set treats up to 15 tons of compost; use the full set on smaller piles also.

JPI’s finished BD 503 is made from German chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) flower heads matured inside a cow’s small intestine during winter burial. It is a prepared compost input, not loose dried chamomile blossoms.
