Green manure, Prepared 500, and deeper roots at Agrilatina

On Agrilatina’s sandy soil, Alex Podolinsky described a staged approach to guide green-manure roots into deeper ground. The order of the two shallow irrigations matters:

  1. After cultivation, sow the green manure.
  2. Give the first shallow irrigation before Prepared 500, wetting no deeper than about 10 centimeters.
  3. Walk out Prepared 500.
  4. Give the second shallow irrigation after Prepared 500.
  5. When the plants reach about 20 centimeters, give one deep watering.
  6. Let the surface dry from the top downward; the roots follow the water deeper into the soil.

Podolinsky presents this as the sequence at Agrilatina, not a universal irrigation timetable. For your site, follow JPI’s current Prepared 500 amount, full one-hour stirring, and application directions, while adjusting watering to your soil and crop.
