Kachina Via’s basil comparison, reported in JPI’s Applied Biodynamics (Fall 1998), used 16 plants per treatment and 18 simulated cold exposures. One week later, BD 507-sprayed basil had the lowest visible-damage rating: 1.5 out of 10, compared with 3.0 for unsprayed basil and 4.5 for water-sprayed basil (lower meant less damage). For frost-season spraying, JPI says to apply valerian in the evening before predicted frost and again early in the morning for heavy frost. Stir one unit (21 drops) in 3 gallons of warm water for 15 minutes for up to an acre; use a proportional amount for a smaller area.

For a pile of up to 15 tons, stir one unit in one gallon of warm water for 10 minutes, pour half into the sixth hole, and spray half over the pile.
