What is Biodynamic Yarrow Preparation used for?

JPI uses finished BD 502 yarrow with the complete BD 502–507 compost set. In a 27-year replicated field trial, a separate yarrow-treated compost arm produced a distinct soil-microbial substrate-use profile and higher catabolic use of several nitrogen-containing substrates; the researchers interpreted this as improved nitrogen status of the soil microbial community. Biodynamic growers also traditionally associate yarrow with trace-element processes.
How do I use Biodynamic Yarrow in composting?

Use the finished preparation as part of a complete BD 502–507 set. Make six holes evenly across the compost pile and place this unit into one of the first five holes, about halfway down the pile. Close the hole with old compost or good soil so no air pocket remains. One complete set treats up to 15 tons of compost; use the full set on smaller piles also.
