Valerian / cowpatpit

I ordered a barrel compost kit in the spring for but when I finally got around to using it I, I found that the 507 valerian was not included I thought that a complete kit would have included it but this one did not . Any way I ordered it and aAustin got it to me right away and he answered my questions. On mixing it . I and couple other farmers got together and put together a pit of cowpatpit barbell compost. Looking forward to using it . Keep up the good work.

Chicken POOP-Fly-away

For several years we have been spraying our 1.5 tons of organic compost when we mix our Stack Farms organic chicken poop. Flies gather as the mix is strong. As soon as we spray the pile with you Valerian prep flies are gone and never come back. It is amazing. Thanks.

“Liquid light of Saturn” Valerian

After reading Stewart Lundy’s 8/10/25 post re: Venus trine Saturn & Neptune for August 25 & 26th, I ordered Valerian from JPI. I received it by mail VERY quickly. What is the Biodynamic® Valerian Preparation used for?

BD 507 is a valerian-flower preparation used with BD 502–506 in a compost pile. Biodynamic growers use it to support warmth and phosphorus processes. In a 2026 in-vitro assay of an Italian BD 507 sample, two selected compost-associated bacteria grew to 10^7 and 10^8 CFU/mL from a 10^4-CFU/mL starting inoculum. In a separate compost-pile experiment, the complete BD 502–507 set showed higher alkaline-phosphatase activity at day 100 than untreated compost.
How do I use the Valerian Preparation for compost?

Empty one unit into 1 gallon of lukewarm rainwater or other chemical-free water and stir vigorously for 10 minutes. Pour half into the sixth compost-pile hole and spray the other half over the pile in a fine mist.
How much compost does one BD 507 unit treat?

Use one unit as part of a complete BD 502–507 set. One complete set treats up to 15 tons of compost; use the full set on smaller piles also.
What does phosphatase research tell us about BD 507?

Phosphatase helps release phosphate from organic matter. In a 2003 Washington State University compost experiment reported by Jennifer R. Reeve, the complete BD 502–507 set showed higher alkaline-phosphatase activity than untreated compost at day 100 (p = 0.0085). At final sampling, untreated compost measured higher activity (p = 0.0171). The experiment documents a time-specific phosphorus-related response for the complete preparation set, which includes BD 507.
