Applied Biodynamics Issue 050 (Fall 2005) brings together vivid place work, practical preparation guidance, community preparation making, and a notable county-fair result.

Central Park as a living landscape

Florence Rewinski recounts a workshop with Marko Pogačnik and Orland Bishop in New York City. At Strawberry Fields, the old elm grove, glacial rocks, the World War I memorial, the Balto statue, and the obelisk known as Cleopatra Needle, participants worked with compassion, healing, ancestral, animal, water, and urban forces. Her account presents biodynamic perception as an active way of meeting the character and needs of a place.

Preparation practice preserved in the archive

The issue publishes updated JPI instruction sheets based on original 1940s documents drafted by Ehrenfried Pfeiffer. It describes BD 500 for soil and root life, BD 501 for light and leaf activity, BD 502 through BD 507 for compost, and BD 508 for water balance and fungal conditions. It also presents Pfeiffer Starter, Barrel Compound, and Field Spray as practical ways to bring preparation effects together.

The 2005 archival directions include one-hour stirring and late-day soil application for BD 500; one-hour stirring and an early-morning fine foliar mist for BD 501; and both fresh foliar and fermented soil methods for BD 508. For present-day use, follow the current JPI handouts for BD 500, BD 501, and BD 508.

Twenty-eight ribbons from twenty-nine entries

Evergreen Elm gardeners entered twenty-nine biodynamic vegetables at the 2005 McKean County Fair and received twenty-eight ribbons: eighteen blue, eight red, and two white. L. A. Rotheraine credits Pfeiffer Field Spray on soil and plants, together with the enthusiasm of the gardeners, for the strong showing.

Preparation making through shared work

The issue records nationwide community collection of dandelion and horsetail, the harvest of finished BD 502 yarrow, and the completion of the first phase of a JPI building with office and meeting space. These activities show the practical community network that sustained preparation quality and access.
