Greetings from Beautiful Okinawa, Japan!!

Greetings from Beautiful Okinawa, Japan!!

I hope this email finds you well. I am forwarding you some pictures of our Biodynamic Adventures.  I hope these photos give you a good sense of what we are developing here. All of the participants are families from the local Steiner School.

These pictures, which are from two different sites, are a series of meetups we have had over the period of a year.  The first field was found not fit for our needs, so we moved to a field free from pesticide use.  The field we are using now was donated by the grandmother of a student from the school.

Myself, Michiko, and Naoko are heading up the project and people join in when they have the time. I will get Michiko (she is the one holding the blanket with red squares over the compost pile under the banana trees) in contact with you before my family leaves the island this summer.  She will be carring on the project and has expressed the interest of growing the Biodynamic movement here in Okinawa.  She is teaching preschool at a local Waldorf-inspired school on the south end of the island that will be closing down.  She wants to focus on farming in Okinawa and Music therapy.

In closing, Thank you for the BD Preps! We used them today to finish up another Compost pile, as seen in the pictures. We will be spreading the first pile onto the field, tilling it into the soil and spraying it with the Pfeiffer Field and Garden spray when it is ready in a couple of weeks.

Thank you again and have a great week!

What is this post about?

This is a thank you letter from a recipient of JPI's biodynamic Merit Grant.

What is the summary of this piece?

This is an account of using the biodynamic preparations donated by JPI in Okinawa, Japan in a community event where they learned about building compost and stirred and sprayed donated preparations.

Why is this important?

On January 6th, 2026, JPI pledged to give away $10,000 of biodynamic preparations through their novel Merit Grant to those in need -- whether the need was economic, environmental, or social -- in order to lower the barrier of entry to biodynamics. As of March 29th, 2026, JPI has already exceeded its goal! Each Merit Grant recipient has pledged to send photographs documenting their use of the preparations, followup with results, as well as spreading the word about the Merit Grant with others so JPI can share more where soil regeneration is most needed.

Who qualifies for the Merit Grant?

More information can be found on our merit grant page: https://www.jpibiodynamics.org/pages/merit-grant
